چکیده

Abstract. This paper discusses the symbol of the Hessian of a shape optimization problem in a viscid, incompressible flow. The symbol of the Hessian for the Stokes shape optimization problem is analytically approximated by tracking a Fourier mode through the operators involved. We propose a discrete method for finding the symbol and confirm the correctness by comparison with the analytical data. A preconditioner is constructed for both the Stokes and Navier–Stokes equation, which greatly accelerates the optimization.

ON THE VALIDITY OF REALIZABLE PHYSICAL APPROXIMATIONS TO δ(t) INPUT IMPULSES TO OBTAIN IMPULSE RESPONSES. APPLICATION TO SYNTHETIZE DISCRETE-TIME MODELS FOR LTI SYSTEMS

The aim of this work is to study the validity of impulse approximations to model discrete systems using filter-based identification methods. Even when impulse inputs possess an inherent error due to the physical impossibility of generation of ideal impulses, they are of particular practical interest when treating discrete-time systems where the analytical resolution becomes very complex or even...

Analysis of the Hessian for Aerodynamic Optimization: Inviscid Flow

In this paper we analyze inviscid aerodynamic shape optimization problems governed by the full potential and the Euler equations in two and three dimensions. The analysis indicates that minimization of pressure dependent cost functions results in Hessians whose eigenvalue distributions are identical for the full potential and the Euler equations. However, the optimization problems in two and th...

Identification of Linear and Nonlinear Aerodynamic Impulse Responses Using Digital Filter Techniques

This paper discusses the mathematical existence and the numerically-correct identification of linear and nonlinear aerodynamic impulse response functions. Differences between continuous-time and discrete-time system theories, which permit the identification and efficient use of these functions, will be detailed. Important input/output definitions and the concept of linear and nonlinear systems ...

Power Allocation Strategies for MIMO Radar Waveform Design

The role of waveform design is central to effective radar resource management for state-of-the art radar systems. The waveform shape employed by any radar system has always been a key factor in determining the performance and application. The design of radar waveform to minimize mean square error (MSE) in estimating the target impulse response is based on power allocation using waterfilling. ...

A New Approach to Rational Discrete-Time Approximations to Continuous-Time Fractional-Order Systems

In this paper a new approach to rational discrete-time approximations to continuous fractional-order systems of the form 1/(s+p) is proposed. We will show that such fractional-order LTI system can be decomposed into subsystems. One has the classic behavior and the other is similar to a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) system. The conversion from continuous-time to discrete-time systems will be don...
